Pushing the Primer a Few Times
I recently devoured the TV show, The Wire, in a little less than three months. That is a remarkable amount of television (adult drama television, no less) for someone not usually accustomed to watching more than a few 15-minute cartoons a night. The single-mindedness of my obsession shocked me. I didn’t think I had the capacity for that type of thing anymore. I was enthralled and completely absorbed by the show, and I just kept charging through the episodes like I’ve only ever felt inclined to do with the chapters in a few of my favorite books.
It felt good to indulge that kind of voraciousness, and now that the show is done I want to resolve to focus that hunger that I thought was long gone into something more creative than consumptive.
Now, I’ve done it far too many times in the past with little no results to pledge my allegiance to this blog again, but I want to exercise my writing muscles a bit, so maybe it’s time to dust off this keyboard…
